The # 1 Fan's Monarchs Players of The Month

2003-2004 Season

February 2004

JEFF GIULIANO
February 2004    # 1 Fan's Monarchs Player of the Month

The Epitome of "HUSTLE!"

The MonarchsFanClub.com is proud to announce the newest winner of the # 1 Fan's Monarchs Player of the Month for the 2003 - 2004 season, Jeff Giuliano!

When it comes to giving it his all, Jeff is the epitome of "Hustling on the Ice"!

Game after game Jeff steps onto the ice and blazes up and down the rink tenaciously pursuing the puck.  It becomes quickly obvious to the opposing teams when Jeff is on the ice.  If they have control of the puck, they know it won't be long before Giuliano will be right there doing his best to rob them of the puck and help put it into the opposition's net!

Jeff is a local athlete from Nashua, NH who initially made a name for himself in the hockey community while attending St. Paul's in Concord.  From there he went on to develop his talent and continued to excel on the ice while attending Boston College.  It wasn't long before Jeff was skating in the ECHL when he signed with the Reading Royals and again showed the skills and hustle to get him a shot in the AHL.

With all the Monarchs called up to LA last year due to the swarm of injuries, Jeff got his chance to skate with the Manchester Monarchs and made it count.  The Monarchs staff were impressed by Jeff's abilities that they signed him to a contract with the Monarchs for the 2003 - 2004 season.

Jeff has definitely made a positive impression with all the Monarchs fans.  They know when Jeff is out there, he will be giving it his all and will be hustling up and down the ice.  The fans have seen this, they know this and they appreciate this very much!

Because of Jeff's hard work, he has become a tremendous fan favorite.  The NH Primaries have come and gone.  Candidates have spent plenty to get the nominations.  Some have won, some have lost.  However, there is one man who did not have to spend a dime on campaigning, did not have to stand on street corners shaking hands trying to get votes, or having his followers make annoying calls to residents across the region trying to get his name recognized.  That man is Jeff Giuliano!  Jeff has the distinction of being crowned as the one and only undisputed holder of the title, "MAYOR OF HOCKEYVILLE"!   The Verizon Arena is definitely Giuliano territory.

So, from one of the many proud Monarchs Fans to the one and only Mayor of Hockeyville, I say Thank You and keep up the great job !  To take a now famous quote by Howard Dean, I'd like to say to you Jeff, "Yaaaaah"!   Congratulations Jeff on being selected as the MonarchsFanClub.com's  # 1 Player of The Month (February  2004) ... Joe Z.

Ryan Flinn
January 2004    # 1 Fan's Monarchs Player of the Month

You've not seen nothing like our "Mighty FLINN!"

The MonarchsFanClub.com is proud to announce the first winner of the # 1 Fan's Monarchs Player of the Month for the 2003 - 2004 season, Ryan Flinn !

Ryan has one of the toughest jobs in the AHL, or for that matter, in all of hockey.  Ryan is the designated Team Enforcer for the Manchester Monarchs.

As Ryan could probably tell you, it's not a glamorous job and most enforcers are over shadowed by the high scoring abilities of their fellow teammates as well as the goalies making all of those saves in net.  Game after game, Ryan carries out his duty by watching over his teammates and ensuring that no opposing player steps out of bounds by taking advantage of any of the Monarchs players with cheap shots or physical abuse.

Ryan is a veteran of the inaugural season Monarchs and since then, has accumulated his share of bruises and stitches from all those hits and fights that come with the turf of being an enforcer.  Will you ever see Ryan back down?  The answer to that question is an emphatic, NO !  On the ice, Ryan has the heart of Lion and the presence of the incredible Hulk on skates, but off ice he is as mellow as you or I.

Right now, Ryan is leading the Monarchs in penalty minutes.  But that shouldn't be surprising. He has missed some games this season due to injuries, but still has managed to put some goals on the scoreboard in between his enforcement duties. Ryan is a NHL veteran as well.  He has appeared in 29 games with the Los Angeles Kings in the last 2 seasons and has accumulated 79 minutes in penalties and has experienced the taste of his first NHL goal.

This year Ryan will be honored by the Monarchs in January when they distribute a Bobblehead image of him.  Ryan is only the 2nd player in Monarchs History to receive this Bobblehead honor.

If there is any one player that I would want to cover my back and watch over my shoulder, it would be Ryan Flinn !

So, from one of the many proud Monarchs Fans to one fearless and unsung hero of the Manchester Monarchs, I say Thank You !  YOU ARE recognized for all you do . . . Congratulations Ryan on being selected as the MonarchsFanClub.com's  # 1 Player of The Month (January  2004) ... Joe Z.

Eric Healey
March 2003    # 1 Fan's Monarchs Player of the Month

He sets !     He shoots !     He SCORES !

The MonarchsFanClub.com proudly announces the March winner of the # 1 Fan's Monarchs Player of the Month, Eric Healey !

Eric has become the first Monarchs Player, not only to have 2 Hat Tricks, but also the first to score 3 Hat Tricks and to register them all in the same season !  This is quite an accomplishment for last season's Top Monarchs Scorer (58 points) and All Star.  It appears that Eric is well on his way to shatter his points record this year !

As the parade of Monarchs players going back and forth to LA continues this season, Eric has stepped up to the plate and done more than his share to keep the Monarchs moving forward while at the same time treating the Monarchs fans to some great hockey and scoring accomplishments.

Healey, a New England native from Hull, Massachusetts, makes a number of public appearances representing the Monarchs.  I found Healey to be very personable and well spoken based on past encounters where I had the privilege to chat with this pro.

Eric is definitely a fan favorite here at the Verizon Arena in Manchester, especially to the fans in section 118 !  Ask his # 1 Fan, Jeff Yalden.  Jeff will tell you in no uncertain terms ! ( Ask any fan at a Monarchs home game sitting within ear shot of Jeff ! )

Eric has the admiration of another fan named Cyndi Bergeron that documents Healey's hockey accomplishments in a website appropriately titled, EXTREME  ERIC  !
( The web address of her site is  http://geocities.com/mrchs33healeygrl )

So, from one New Englander to another, and from one proud Monarchs Fan to one tremendous Monarchs Player, Thank You !  . . . Congratulations Eric on being selected as the MonarchsFanClub.com's  # 1 Player of The Month (March  2003) ... Joe Z.

*  Note:  Eric finished off the 2002-2003 regular season with 42 goals ( Tops in the AHL )

Travis Scott

February 2003    # 1 Fan's Monarchs Player of the Month

Every team needs its solid base to succeed and for the Monarchs it's Travis Scott

The MonarchsFanClub.com is proud to announce the February winner of the # 1 Fan's Monarchs Player of the Month, Travis Scott !

With all the call-ups to the LA Kings this year as well as the number of injuries suffered by the Manchester Monarchs, one player has done a tremendous job to keep the Monarchs in the running for the Division Title and Calder Cup.  That player is goalie, Travis Scott.

After an early season shaky start, Travis settled down and has become solid in goal this season.  As the experienced half of the Monarchs One-Two goaltender punch, Travis has been given the task to hold down the Monarchs' fort while fellow goalie, Cristobal Huet is in LA acting as the Kings back-up goalie if needed.

Travis already has 14 wins under his belt this year and the way he has been playing he should have no problem easily surpassing his last season's record of 21 wins.

On December 20, 2002 Travis chalked up an assist on an Eric Healey goal against the Saint John Flames.  What was so cool about that assist was that it came on the night that the Monarchs honored Travis by distributing a Travis Scott Bobblehead figure to the fans.  Was Travis under pressure?  No sir !  He even picked up the win that night in goal !

Travis also participates in various Monarchs public appearances and has a legion of fans both inside and outside the Verizon.  One good example of a Travis Scott fan is Katie Donati.  Katie has an awesome website dedicated to Travis that has a wealth of information on her favorite Monarch. ( The web address of her site is http://travisscott.freeservers.com )

So, from one proud Monarchs Fan to one tremendous Monarchs Player and goalie, I salute you . . . Congratulations Travis on being selected as the MonarchsFanClub.com's  # 1 Player of The Month (February  2003) ... Joe Z.

Dane Jackson
( Monarchs Team Captain  )
January 2003    # 1 Fan's Monarchs Player of the Month

Dane Jackson, a hockey player that has left a good impression on both the fans and his teams

The MonarchsFanClub.com has chosen its very first # 1 Fan's Monarchs Player of the Month.  The first winner from the Monarchs to be awarded with this distinction is Dane Jackson.

Dane bears the responsibility of being the Monarchs Team Captain.  This title is no stranger to Dane.  Prior to joining the Monarchs in its Inaugural season (2001 - 2002), Dane had been captain during the 1995 - 1996 season for the AHL Rochester Americans, the farm club of the NHL Buffalo Sabres team.  He captained the Rochester Americans to the 1995 -1996 Calder Cup Championship.

Being Captain of the Monarchs Team doesn't mean Dane has to be the highest goal or point scorer.  Instead, Dane brings experience to the Monarchs and instills his example and motivation to the newer young players of how to get to their dream in the NHL someday.  Dane has skated with 3 NHL teams over the years, which included 25 games with the Vancouver Canucks, 22 games with the Buffalo Sabres and 8 games with the New York Islanders.  Dane's ice time in the NHL resulted in his 12 goals, 6 assists and 58 penalty minutes.

Last year Dane accumulated some pretty good numbers with the first year Monarchs.  Dane was 7th overall in point leaders with his 37 points.  He also had 16 goals, 21 assists and 93 penalty minutes.

Dane has spent a number of off ice time hours appearing in the Monarchs Goals for Success program at various schools.  The Monarchs arrange appearances of the various players through such programs as the Goals for Success, as well as other public relations events held throughout the year.

The Monarchs are doing very good this year in the AHL standings despite the continuous drain of players sent up to the LA Kings and the injuries to the players here in Manchester.  I think you'll agree, Captain Dane is keeping Team Monarchs on course to the Calder Cup playoffs and if all goes well, Captain Dane will get to present all of us grateful  Manchester Monarchs Fans with the Calder Cup Champion - SHIP !       Goooooo Monarchs !

So, from one proud Monarchs Fan to one deserving Monarchs Player and Captain, I salute you . . . Congratulations Dane on being selected as the first MonarchsFanClub.com's  # 1 Player of The Month (January  2003) ... Joe Z.
